My Story
Shely has 7 years of experience working as a Marriage and Family Therapist and Sex Therapist. Shely has primarily worked in a private practice setting. Over the years she has worked with clients of all genders and has worked with an array of clients and issues.
Shely is a Gottman trained therapist and believes that conflict is an opportunity waiting to be explored. Shely’s experience ranges from marital tension, communication issues, sexual dysfunction, self-esteem and confidence issues, affairs, addiction, depression, anxiety, BPD, enhancing sexual satisfaction, disability, and sexuality and more. Shely has experience working with the LGBTQ+ community.
Shely uses an integrative approach that is uniquely tailored to each couple and individual that walks through her office. Shely is a systemic thinker and is trained through the family systems theory. In session, she often uses an Experiential-Holistic approach mixed with Narrative and Solution-Focused. She also pulls from Gottman's approach, Bowenian therapy, Imago, Non-Violent Communication, Positive Psychology, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and more. She is also passionate and well-versed in matters of nervous system regulation. Shely is known for her meditations, deep breathing, and somatic movement practices.
Shely is trauma-informed and has a knack for addressing trauma using evidence-based practices. Her core beliefs as a Humanistic and Experiential therapist believe that unblocking honest emotional expression in individuals and couples will open individuals to their inner experience and help them be more fully human. Shely’s mission statement is to help people feel more comfortable
in the skin they are in.
